The Cerro Rico of Potosí become a secular icon soon after Pedro de Cieza de León published a woodcut image of it in Seville in 1553. As a result of this image and the fabulous news that accompanied it, many artists tried their hand at representing the Rich Hill as well as the Imperial Villa. Some of these images are quite fanciful, some quite accurate. All are fascinating. This section includes a variety of images of Potosí, its environs, inhabitants, and products across the ages.
